We offer a variety of children's classes. Please see below:

For Children

We offer two streams of classes: Deutsch and Deutsch Immersion. The Deutsch stream classes are aimed at children who speak German at home with their families and are relatively fluent in German. The Immersion stream classes are for children interested in learning German - no previous knowledge of German is necessary.

 


Spielgruppe/Playgroup (ages 3-5)- Deutsch / Deutsch Immersion Stream

Saturdays, 9.30am-12.30pm
Spielgruppe exposes the students to spoken German through play, songs and games  and promotes the understanding and speaking of basic situational German.

Grundstufe 1/K1- Deutsch / Deutsch Immersion Stream

Saturdays, 9.30am-12.30pm
Designed for children with basic literacy in English, Level 1 emphasizes listening and speaking skills.

Grundstufe 2 / Level 2 - Deutsch / Deutsch Immersion Streams

Saturdays, 9.30am-12.30pm (Deutsch Immersion)
Tuesdays, 3.45-6pm
Building on German learned in the previous courses, students are introduced to basic reading and writing in German. Level 2 instructs students in correct spelling and grammar. Children must have previous exposure to the German language.

Mittelstufe  / Intermediate Level  - Deutsch/ Deutsch Immersion Streams

Tuesdays, 3.45-6pm
Building on German learned in the previous courses, Intermediate Level further develops German spelling and grammar as well as reading and writing skills. Children must have previous exposure to the German language.
We offer two language assessments (Vergleichsarbeiten) at this level: A1 and A2.
 

Sprachdiplom

We offer two language diplomas for children/teenagers: DSD I (B1) and DSD II (C1). Students wishing to attend a college or a university in Germany need to provide evidence of proficiency in the German language by passing the DSDII exam. Each level requires a 2 year time commitment from the student.

Tuesdays, 3.45-6pm
The Advanced German Literacy class is designed for teenagers who are fluent, or close to fluent, German speakers and are seeking to become competent in reading and writing in German. The class will focus on reading and writing skills. Students must have a basic ability in reading and writing, and must be able to engage only in German during the period of instruction.

Grade 10/11/12 German

Saturdays, 9.30am-12.30pm or Tuesdays, 3.45-6pm

These classes are aimed at Grade 8-12 students who would like to learn German. No previous knowledge of German is necessary. Students can get credits at their local high school for this class if they pass the A2 exam at the end of the course.
