For Children
Spielgruppe/Playgroup German Deutsch Immersion (ages 3-5)
This Playgroup is for children with little or no previous experience in German. The class will introduce children to the sound of the German language and basic vocabulary, integrating play, music and crafts.                                                          Note: This class is currently full. Please contact the school for more information or to place your child’s name on a waitlist.
Spielgruppe/Playgroup Deutsch (ages 3-5)
Integrating play, music and crafts, the Playgroup develops vocabulary and promotes the understanding and speaking of basic situational German. This class is intended for children who already speak German.

Grundstufe 1/K1- Deutsch / Deutsch Immersion Stream
Designed for children with basic literacy in English, Level 1 emphasizes listening and speaking skills.  Most children in this class have previous exposure to the German language.

Grundstufe 2 / Level 2 - Deutsch / Deutsch Immersion Stream
Building on German learned in the previous courses, Students are introduced to basic reading and writing in German. Level 2 instructs students in correct spelling and grammar. Children must have previous exposure to the German language.

Mittelstufe  / Intermediate Level  - Deutsch/ Deutsch Immersion Streams
Building on German learned in the previous courses, Intermediate Level further develops German spelling and grammar as well as reading and writing skills. Children must have previous exposure to the German language.
The goal in this class is to prepare the child to pass the KVDS (Kanadischer Verband Deutscher Schulen) exam.

For High School Students
Deutsch 9-10 (Credit Course Preparation)
Introductory German for secondary students is a course which follows British Columbia school curriculum guidelines and prepares students for the Grade 11-12 credit programs. No previous knowledge of German is required.
Deutsch 11-12 (Credit Courses)
This course is designed for students who have completed the Introductory German course or have gained basic knowledge of German elsewhere.
  • Students completing the Grade 11 course will earn credit for the university entrance language requirement.
  • Grade 12 courses will prepare students for the B.C. Provincial and Scholarship Examinations.

Sprachdiplom
Three levels of exams are administered by the German Government in Canada to demonstrate language proficiency: ZDP A2, DSD I (B1) and DSD II (C1).Students wishing to attend a college or a university in Germany need to provide evidence of proficiency in the German language by passing the C1 Language Diploma examination. Each level requires a 2 year time commitment from the Student.
Advanced German Literacy/ Sprachdiploma ZDP A2
This class will prepare students for the Sprachdiplom ZDP A2 exam – the first level of exams offered by the German Government to demonstrate German language proficiency.
Advanced German Literacy/Sprachdiplom DSD I (B1)
The Advanced German Literacy class is designed for children who are fluent, or close to fluent, German speakers and are seeking to become competent in reading and writing in German. The class will focus on reading and writing skills. Children must have a basic ability in reading and writing at least in English, and must be able to engage only in German during the period of instruction.
